Flow Forest Farm — School Visits
For schools that know a field trip can teach what a classroom cannot. Five hectares of ecology, agriculture, and biodiversity — all accessible on foot.
The Program
Flow Forest Farm offers guided educational visits that cover ecology, agriculture, biodiversity, and food systems — taught through direct experience, not textbooks. Students see how seeds become food, how compost works, how birds and plants and soil interact in a living system that has been growing for thirty years.
The farm's documented population of 32 bird species makes it an exceptional outdoor classroom for science programs. The food forest, composting systems, and seed nursery each map directly to curriculum topics that otherwise get taught only on paper.
Suitable for traditional schools, homeschool co-ops, and learning groups. Ages 6 to 18. Curriculum alignment notes available for teachers on request.
Students leave with a seed and a question they want to answer. The Visit
Students gather at the entrance of the property for a brief orientation. Maya or Martin introduces the farm's story — how it began, why it was created, and what regenerative means in practice. This establishes context before the group enters the land.
20 minutesA structured walking tour through the farm's distinct ecological areas: the food forest, coconut grove, vegetable beds, composting system, and seed nursery. Each zone is explained in age-appropriate language, connecting what students see to how food systems and ecosystems work.
45 to 60 minutesWith binoculars and a printed species sheet, students identify birds in the documented population. The guide explains why bird diversity is an indicator of ecosystem health, connecting it to what the students saw in the farm zones. Observation notes can be used as a science exercise.
30 minutesAge-appropriate farm work selected based on group and season. Younger groups typically plant a seedling or assist with composting. Older groups may participate in harvesting, soil mixing, or seed saving. Each student handles real farm materials and completes a real task. Not a simulation.
30 to 40 minutesThe group gathers for a brief closing. Students receive a seed packet or seedling to bring home and continue observing. A question is left open for the teacher to follow up on in class. Teachers can request a curriculum alignment sheet summarizing connections to their subject areas.
15 minutesCurriculum Alignment
The farm visit connects to multiple subject areas. This is a general guide — full curriculum notes are available on request for teachers who want to build pre- and post-visit lessons around the experience.
